Throughout the next few months our class is going to work on growing our mind set. This week we are focusing on optimism. We have had wonderful conversations about what optimism means and what it would look like. The children made crowns with the word optimism and wrote a speech bubble of a phrase that would demonstrate this attitude. They have proudly worn these around the school. We also created a poster for all to see in the classroom. Whenever a student shows optimism in school, that child's name is put on the poster. Like you would expect, every student has his/her name up on the poster already! Next week we will be moving on flexibility!
We had an exciting time learning about two and three dimensional shapes in math. One of our fun activities was making three dimensional shapes out of toothpicks and marshmallows. Hopefully these came home in one piece! The children enjoyed playing this math game called, Salute! The directions to this game will be coming home. This is another game that you can play at home to practice math facts!
In reading we have been focusing on characters. The children have discovered that a character's feeling can change throughout the story. We are getting to know chatacters the same way we get to know a new friend.
The children were thrilled to end the day with their families by reading books while enjoying hot chocolate! They earned a special reward because they once again got all the cubes in the jar for good behavior. They came up with the reward of having hot chocolate with their families during Family Read. It was a special time for all!
