Horray! Our class got all of the cubes in the good behavior jar this afternoon. The children are so excited to earn a reward tomorrow for being such wonderful students.
Our class had a fabulous time visiting Brainerd Library earlier this week. Mrs. Coleman, one of the amazing librarians, gave us a tour of this beautiful building. She then read us a story that we all enjoyed. The children were each given their own library cards and checked out a book. Thanks to the Brainerd Library staff for making our first field trip such a memorable one!
Our class loves to use white boards to practice their fundations. Thanks for practicing the various phonic skills and trick words at home. This has proven to be so beneficial!
Our class has had a fun time learning about measurement. We have used various types of non-standard units to measure. The children have had meaningful conversations of how mathematicians need to be precise. Measuring each other's body length using square tiles was lots of fun!
Thank you for attending Curriculum Night! It was wonderful to meet so many family members. I really enjoyed sharing all of the exciting things the children will learn this year. Our class had fun preparing our room for the evening. Below are some pictures of the children standing next to their adorable self made bodies. These greeted everyone at Curriculum Night!
Our class has started off the year by taking, reading and writing about friendship. Many new friendships have started to build which is wonderful friendships. A fun culminating activity that we did with the other first graders was making friendship fruit salad. Many children brought in a piece of fruit to contribute to a delicious fruit salad. We incorporated a fun math activity by graphing all the fruit that was brought in! The children loved enjoying their fruit salad together and it was a fabulous way to celebrate the flourishing friendships that are developing!
The children have loved starting reading workshop in our classroom. We have been building our reading stamina so that we can read for a long time without getting too tired or giving up! The students have a day where they will book shop in the library corner for new books to read! Very soon books will be coming home nightly with your child! Get ready to listen to some fabulous reading!
