We met our 3rd grade buddies from Ms. Egan's classroom. We read with them today. We will be spending time throughout the year with these buddies have fun while learning.
Continuing on the measurement exploration, students used cubes and paper clips to measure objects around the room. They then used a tower of 10 cubes to find objects that were longer, taller or shorter than their ten stick. They practiced using math vocabulary when explaining what they discovered on their hunt.
What is more fun that reading by flashlight on rainy, stormy days? We have had a bunch of those days already this year and the students have had a chance to snuggle up with a flashlight to read their books. They love this twist on reading time.
Our classroom began the year in math by learning to measure with non-standard units like paper clips, cubes and colored squares. They had lots of fun measuring partners by lining up colored squares from head to toe. They learned essential rules to make their measurements accurate such as lining up units side to side, with no overlaps and no gaps.
