Burr Elementary was invaded today by some wild creatures from far away places. The children enjoyed a visit from some insects, reptiles and amphibians. The children enjoyed learning about the different characteristics of the animal type as well as where they were from. Some of these animals were from Madagascar. The children were overly excited to be able to not only see, but to TOUCH the animals as well.
Don't forget! Our November Family Read is tomorrow afternoon at 2:45. This is a wonderful time for you to jump into your child's classroom and read to a small group of students. You can then listen to the students share some of their reading. We are working on Non-fiction reading and the children are really taking in a lot of new information from their reading. It is such a fun time in grade 1! We hope you can make it tomorrow!
Last Friday, the students in first grade got to enjoy a reading time with other first grade students. They ate popcorn and used flashlights just like a real PJ party! The students loved the chance to share their reading with friends from other classrooms. They read to each other interesting and favorite books. They were reading longer and stronger because of the added excitement that the atmosphere created. We were so proud of the students for doing such a wonderful job.
