Last week the students were able to enjoy the Middle school's performance of The Beauty and the Beast. It was truly amazing to let the students see all the hard work that 7th and 8th graders in their own district put into creating a fantastic play. The students enjoyed the show tremendously but also started to see all the fabulous things they could be doing in just a few short years.
In our classroom we have been learning about the traits that create a growth mindset as a learner. Last week a group of students reading a book together discovered one of those traits in the main character. They then read the book aloud to the class and led a conversation about the characters growth mindset trait. The class in turn discovered and discussed a different mindset trait than the readers. It was a great way for the students to use their learning across curriculum and the student led conversation was amazing to watch!
The students have been able to assist the garden club in preparing the garden beds and planting seedlings during recess. The students are also taking turns watering the gardens each day so that they can all share in the responsibility of the gardens.
The students have been using Adobe Voice on the iPads to record one of their Hot To books and All About books. The students have learned how to set up their books with the correct number of pages, search for pictures to use, record pages and move pages around when needed. I am so proud of their quick learning and hard working as it is a wonderful way to showcase their writing in first grade!
