What a great time we had on our field trip to Brainerd Library. The students went on a tour of the library, heard a great story read aloud by Mrs. Coleman, and each received their very own library card. They were so excited to each check out a book to take home and enjoy for two weeks!
We had a great time celebrating Lily's 7th Birthday! Thanks to Mrs. Karber for the amazingly creative birthday treat. We loved it!
Over the past week, we have been busy learning how scientists observe using their five senses. We have been using apples to study this. We have observed apples for smell, touch, and even taste. We ended our week by making class-made (as the students called it) applesauce. Mr. Larson even came down to sample our recipe as well as the other first grade class recipes. Be sure to ask your child which they liked better - apple slices, jar applesauce, or class-made applesauce!
We had so much fun creating ourselves to surprise all of the parents at Curriculum Night! We hope you loved our special surprise that we created for you! Check out how awesome our creations were!
During our Social Studies block, we spent our first two weeks together discussing what it means to be a good friend, and how we treat each other as friends. This helps us to understand how to interact with each other daily within our classroom community, which is one big family! At the end of our learning, we celebrated by making friendship fruit salad. Each student brought in a piece of fruit to contribute and when mixed together and shared, everyone took part in a delicious celebration! We talked about how we show friendship, qualities of a good friend, and even graphed our favorite fruits. What a great celebration this was!
Each and every day we are building upon our Reading Workshop in Room 17! We are working hard to build our reading stamina, and show what Reading Workshop looks like and sounds like. We have started to learn about habits that good readers develop, including taking sneak peeks, making a plan for our reading, and reading more and more every day! We close our Reading Workshop with partner time each day - ask your child what good reading partners do and work on. We are off to a great start!
