Visitors from a Place Called HopeOn Monday, November 13, our PTO sponsored a Cultural Arts Program that brought hurt and rescued animals from A Place Called Hope in Killingworth! The two ladies who came showed us a falcon, an eastern screech owl, a bard owl and a red tailed hawk. They told us each birds' story and gave us ideas about how we could help all animals. It was exciting to see the different birds up close!!! It was a fun cultural arts program and we learned a lot!!!
THANK YOU, PTO!!!! Following the Directions of Our How To Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Book to Make a Real SandwichOn Thursday afternoon, November 9, we finished up our How To writing unit by making a sandwich following the directions the children had written in their individual books! We had fun with it, realized how important it is to include all the steps, and enjoyed a yummy treat as well!!!
Remembering Our Veteran'sOn Thursday, November 9, our school held a special assembly to honor veterans who are family members, friends and neighbors of our students! There was an informal breakfast first and the students were able to welcome their special veteran who visited and join them for breakfast!! At the assembly there were songs sung by the chorus, a reading by members of the staff and acting out by some students of The Wall. Some students also read essays they had written in honor of all veterans. Outside the library was a wall of honor with the names of veterans known by our families written in big stars!!! Mr. Larson acknowledged all the veterans who were present at the assembly!!! THANK YOU VETERANS!!!!! Our class made some cards and gave them to some of the veterans who came. We were lucky to have Rory's grandfather, Cora's dad and Liam's dad come to our school!!! After the assembly, Liam's dad came to our classroom and told us about the Marines and brought some pictures to share with us!!!
Mr. Larson's BirthdayWednesday, November 8 was also Mr. Larson's birthday! Our class made him some cards and we brought them down to him at the end of the day and sang some birthday songs as well!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. LARSON!!!! A special Delivery from the Super Secret Detective AgencyOn Wednesday morning, November 8, Mrs. MacLeod delivered a confidential envelope to our room from the Super Secret Detective Agency! In it, there were clues to figure out mystery words! The children worked with their partners to figure out the words. The words were numbered so we put the words in order to figure out the secret message! The message said: "There is a surprise waiting for you outside the classroom door". When the children went outside, there was a basket with a note and some presents!!! The children received a sign that said great and a top since they did a GREAT job and they are TOP detectives!!!!!
Our First Indoor RecessIt's hard to believe but our first indoor recess due to the weather was Monday, November 6. We have been so lucky with the weather this fall!!! Although the children missed going outside, they discovered they could have lots of fun with their classmates using "indoor" toys!!!!
