Mother’s Day On Friday, May 11, we held a special celebration for our moms/grandmoms in our classroom. The children greeted their special guests with a flower and then had their pictures taken together by Mrs. Shimoda. In the classroom we said some poems and sang some songs, including a special one called Mama, a Rose, which Ms. D taught the children to sign. The children had decorated a book called If You Give a Mom a Muffin and read it to their moms and grandsons. Our class made chocolate chip cookies that we had along with some muffins and some special treats to eat and lemonade and tea to drink. While they were eating the kids interviewed their special guests about which of two things they preferred to do!!! It was a fun celebration!!!
Spring Concert RehearsalOn Thursday, May 10, our whole school was invited to the dress rehearsal for the Spring Concert that was being held that night! The choruses sang and did a wonderful job!!! Our Ms. D had taught the girls and boys signs for a song they sang!!! It was a great concert!!!
Burr District School Chosen As Elementary School Of The YearThis year the Connecticut Association of Schools chose Burr School as the elementary school of the year!!! Our school applied for the award and a team from CAS reviewed our application, visited our school and chose BES as the winner!!!! On Friday afternoon, May 4, we had a special assembly to celebrate! As everyone walked into the cafeteria, there was special Celebration music. Mr. Larson talked about our school and the award. There was a special slideshow with the kids saying what made our school special that was fun to watch and listen to. Mrs. Hale, from CAS, talked about how impressed the committee was with our school and presented Mr. Larson with a special plaque for our school. We had a little dance party and to end the celebration, the PTO gave everyone a special popsicle to enjoy! It was a fun assembly!!! Thank you, CAS and Burr PTO!!! Congratulations to Burr District Elementary School!!!
A Very Special Visitor (Actually Two Very Special Visitors)On Thursday, April 12 two very special visitors came to our class - Ryan’s new baby brother, Colton Jack and their mom!!! Colton is so cute and it was fun to just watch him and ask questions about him!!! Ryan is so lucky to have such a good little brother like Colton - and Colton is lucky to have such a good big brother like Ryan!!! Next Ryan and Colton’s mom read some Piggy and Elephant books that were really fun!!!! it was a fun way to end the afternoon!!!! THANKS FOR COMING COLTON AND RYAN’S MOM!!!
Elise’s BirthdayOn Thursday, March 29th, we celebrated Elise’s birthday! On Saturday, March 31st, she turned 7 years old!!! We ended the day with some delicious cupcakes!!! HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY, ELISE!!!!
BES Talent ShowWednesday, March 28 was also our BES Talent Show sponsored by our Student Council. There were so many great performers, including our very own Rory!!! She and Lily from Mrs. Blasiak’s class did a fantastic gymnastics routine!!! GREAT JOB, RORY AND LILY!!!
A Visit From Aunt Sue and Uncle NickOn Wednesday, March 28, Aunt Sue and Uncle Nick came to our classroom for a spring visit! As usual, they brought and read a fun book and left it for our class!! They also brought materials for a cute bunny bag and delicious and fun treats!!! We always love when they come to visit!!! THANK YOU AUNT SUE AND UNCLE NICK!!!!
Pajama DayFriday, March 23 was also Pajama Day at school! The girls and boys brought in a dollar to wear their pjs and the money was donated to a special cause! Some children donated, but chose not to wear their pjs that day! Thank you for participating for this worthy cause!!!
