Making Apple Crisp
About ten days ago the ladies from the cafeteria sent us a bag with an apple for everyone in our class. Rather than eat them then, we decided to save them and cook something together as a class. So, on Tuesday, Ocober 24, we made apple crisp!!! First, the girls and boys peeled and cut the apples (with Ms. D's help) using Mrs. Atwood's peeler that they cranked with their hand! Then each child measured a couple of the other ingredients (brown sugar, butter, flour, cinnamon and rolled oats) that went into a bowl. Each child got a chance to "cut" everything together using two knives!! The apples were spread into the pan, sprinkled with water and then the other ingredients went on top. We brought the apple crisp down to the cafeteria and Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Klein baked it for us!!! Later on in the afternoon we all enjoyed the warm apple crisp. It was delicious!!!!
A special "thank you" to Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Klein for giving us the apples and for baking the apple crisp for us!!!
We recently began our writing unit on How-To Books. The children are using this shared experience to write their own How-To book about how to make apple crisp!!!
