Bright and early on Tuesday morning, October 10, Clifford, the Red Dog paid a visit to our classroom!!! His sign said that he was looking for readers - and he got everyone excited about the book fair, as well!!!

Our First Family ReadOn Friday, September 29 first grade had their first Family Read!!! Many parents and grandparents and relatives came to read with or to their children and their classmates!!! Everyone enjoyed their time finding a cozy spot to read in the classroom and out in the hall and then reading some great books together!!!! Thanks to everyone for coming and reading at our first Family Read!!!
Look At Our Mismatched ShoesOn Thursday, September 29, the children were invited to wear mismatched shoes to help raise money for hurricane relief. The money was given to Kids Care - The Outreach Program through the Red Cross. Thank you for your kind and generous support! The kids had fun and hopefully we were able to help some people who experienced those terrible hurricanes.
Celebrating Cooper's BirthdayOn Wednesday, September 27 we celebrated Cooper's 6th birthday!!! His mom and special friend came in to do a fun project!!! First, Cooper's mom read a story to introduce the project!!! Then the children all made slime with colored, glittery glue and contact solution!!! The children enjoyed mixing everything together and playing with it, before putting it in a bag to take home!!! Then, the boys and girls enjoyed popsicles before going home!!! It was a fun birthday celebration!!! Happy 6th Birthday, Cooper!!!!
Field Trip to Brainerd LibraryOn Tuesday, September 26, all three first grades traveled by school bus to Brainerd Library! Our former Burr School librarian, Pat Coleman was the children's librarian at Brainerd Library! First Mrs. Coleman showed us around the library!!! Next, she brought us all downstairs to the Children's Department and showed us around. Then, she read a great book. After that, the girls and boys looked for a special book !!! The children received their library cards and were able to use them to take their first library book home!!! Some children already had their own library cards - and brought them along to get books!!! The children were very excited - and were very well behaved while everyone waited to have their books checked out!!!! It was a great field trip!!! Thank you, Mrs. Coleman!!!! We hope this will be just the first of many trips to Brainerd Library to take out books!!!
Applesauce DayTo end our unit on apples, the three first grades had a contest to see which class entered the best applesauce. All three classes got together and watched while Mr. Larson tasted all three apple sauces. He thought ours was the best!!! Everyone enjoyed eating the applesauce - and being together on a Friday afternoon!!!
PJ and Stuffed Animal DayOn Friday, September 22 the girls and boys wore their pajamas and brought their stuffed animals to school to help raise money for the Jimmy Fund!!! Thank you for all your very generous contributions!!! The money went to a great cause and the children enjoyed being comfy all day and bringing their "friends" from home!!!
Celebrating Liam's BirthdayOn Friday, September 15, Liam's mom and dad and sister, Emma came into class to help celebrate his birthday on Saturday, September 16. Liam's mom read some of Liam's favorite books! Then we all enjoyed some delicious chocolate cupcakes with a pine tree on top!! Happy 6th birthday, Liam!!!
Reading With Our BuddiesOn Friday, September 15 our buddies from Mrs. Barse's class came to our room. First, the first graders read to their buddies from their book boxes. Next, the fourth graders read to their buddies, or they read together!!! The girls and boys did some great reading together and had fun!!!
